Bartlett family letters and documents, 1842-1868.

The letters document the westward migration from NJ to PA to IN of members of the Quaker Bartlett family, especially Edmund and Nathan Bartlett, in the period 1842-1846. Nathan Bartlett, who moves west to LaPorte, Indiana, first, writes to his brother, Edmund, to join him there. There is a good deal of description of land, water access, managing the farm, prices of crops at market. Other letter writers include: Amos Bartlett, Hannah Bartlett, Joseph Bartlett, Thomas Bartlett, as well as Martha Leeds and some others. In his letter dated 9 mo. 19, Joseph and Amos Bartlett report on selling of a slave. George Elkinton (7 mo. 19 1855) reports on his visit with Joseph at the Asylum.
